Brought up in Chennai,Mr.Ferno Spent the early days of his career working for a contracting company until an opportunity presented itself to work with Mr.Lulla, a popular seniorair-conditioning consultant, thus commencing his lifelong commitment towards the air-conditioningindustry. He later proceeded to  associated with Bluestar for 12 years.

His term as an employee, served as a research ground where he able to observe the massive gap between a consultant and client in terms of value addition to a project.Achance incident, trying to help a client save a huge amount due to unnecessary details on design leading to a tiff with consultant and him made him realize he is not made to work with contractors and was ready to step up the ante.

Airdesignengineering solutions Pvt ltd commenced with élan in 2008, embarking on a 148 acres consultation for Apollo tyres, a project whose final phase is currently in progress.A project that encompasses 16000 tons of air-conditional with every type of system imaginable in the current market implemented into it. From split ac,chiller to cooling tower, water cooler, humidifier and dehumidifiers.

With close to 300 projects under his wing, Mr.Ferno attributes his success to his clients who believed in him and his work and their companies’ goal to optimize the capacity of a HVAC system while maintaining minimum project value, without compromising the design conditions.

Elaborating further, he charts out his three step work-process, where he primarily selects the system required for the projects, based on specific parameters (e.g: in terms of cubic      length,elevations,ambience) that would be ideal to deliver the required conditions. Secondly identify the conditions, if required where a system has to be customized to fit the requirement and finally prepare a live-site cost analysis (LCC) which would providea timeline for the initial task, running tasks and overall cost, providing a thorough understanding of the project and thereby help choose the right vendor.

ADES’s most challenging project to date is attributed to Nokia-Siemens, where a canteen with noise levels of 75 db was to be brought down to respectable levels Asap. Taking it up as a challenge, the company customized their own sound attenuators in a factory, and installed them onsite bringing in the decibel levels to 25 in a period of just 48 hours.

Mr.Ferno’s strongly believes ‘Building services and its components have a life of its own’, while Architects and  builders  play an integral role in the ensuring consultant work along with them from an early stage to avoid breaking something at a later stage to accommodate the services.

Illustrating the example of a recent project completed by ADES, a 2 Lakh sq. ft sit-out completed in just 70 days when the architect, consultants and builders work in tandem to accommodate everyone’s needs and create a work flow. The project was worked out in detail with each person’s work planned out in advance before commencement of the project.

Furthermore, He emphasizes the role of the suppliers who are often overlooked during the decision making process. He believes suppliers rather than look at the bill of quantities, should take an effort to look into the layout, specifications, understand the project and then quote, thereby having a realistic quote where they know the need for each item and avoid escalations. Suppliers and contractors according to Mr.Ferno are key team members for a consultant’s success in deliverance of a project and there is currently a gap in the system which he wishes to bridge soon.

Mr.Ferno compares the Post-Covid Scenario to the story of 5 blind guys holding an elephant and having their own views of the elephant’s features. Each person has a different outcome to the covidscenario. In the services industry so many new things like ozonizer, UV filter, and microbial filter have come up but one is not sure which works best. He further quotes that “It’s our beliefs that what we currently use works,that would keep us going.”

Mr.Fernoassert the primary goal for ADES in the next decade is “Life,work,balance for myself and my employees. I believe my company should be taken over by my subordinates to run the show after me without compromising the primary goal.”
